“Twisted Illusions” Book Review

Before I even begin this “book review,” I have to say that I am extremely proud of author Jasemine-Denise’s growth as a writer. Many novelist despise hearing that their current book is better than the one before it, but in this case perhaps better isn’t the way to put it. There has to be a kinder phrase. Her writing has always been superb, but it seems in her newest piece she was able to truly connect us to the characters. Denise has opened new doorways into a (sadly) timeless Chicago tale. Camille Moore Interview

When I was younger, a part of fiction character development was building scenarios to assign behavioral traits. My cousin (whose novel "Twisted Illusions" is on sale for $2) and I would discuss ideas, effortlessly bouncing off the other's original thought. No matter which angle we started at, we would always conclude at the same: acting out interviews. It's one of those outwardly psycho, inwardly hella cool type of things. I value the ability to bring childhood you into adult life, maintaining the same joys you had. It keeps you loving what you do, never allowing it to be come just what you do. So, since I don't have my cousin here at this very moment, I'll be doing a character interview solo. Check this noise. Visualize: A Camille Moore Interview It's November 22, 2013 and we're insid...

Life Through Fiction

"Point of Infliction" elicits this life through fiction feel for me, and because of that I wanted to share some facts that coincide with real life events, people, and places. 10. "Point of Infliction" is set in Middletown, Rhode Island. One of my favorite novelist (Dean Koontz) sets his books in RI. I believe it came naturally to me to use the same location. During the prologue (available for preview on Amazon), I was submerged in an intense state of mind. Every word I wrote it was as if I were having an out of body experience. So, the fact that I subconsciously used a placed I personally have never been to either plays to his skill or my loopiness. =) 9. I created a soundtrack for "Point of Infliction" which featured 26 songs total. The top 5 songs from the POI “Soundtrack” were: ...

The Purpose Beyond the Pages

My latest release, "Point of Infliction", is available for $1.99 until July 14, 2014! Each time I sit down to write I have to have a purpose. Though my purpose for "Blind Thirst" was minuscule compared to that of "Tomorrow Never Came" and "Point of Infliction", there was indeed motive. I've gone from appeasing my inner supernatural geek to addressing the sorrows of our youth to immersing readers into the wicked veracities of the world. So, you may be asking, "What is the purpose beyond the pages of "Point of Infliction" (POI)?" It is relatively evident what inspired this novel. It is dark, sensual, and several margins away from my past two books. There are bits of horror, humor, and remnants of love on many levels sprawled throughout. This embodies the human condition as well as the huma...

A Summer Reader’s Dream

[learn_more caption="Click Here for Jasemine-Denise's Introductory Address" state="close"] I was sitting on the bus the other day and I noticed that there was a woman who looked around my age reading. It immediately warmed my heart and I began to watch her intently flip through the pages of her kindle, her eyes scanning viciously as if she was completely drawn in. I came home that night and I called my cousin to tell her what had happened. Coincidentally, she had seen something similar a few weeks prior! The kid she’d seen was a teenager, probably several years younger than us. He had no phone out or any headphones in, he was just enjoying his paperback book. Veronica then said to me (And I quote!), “Jaye! I wanna give back to them. I want to show all the readers out there how much seeing ...

Caring for the Soul

For the past 23 years I have been trying to learn who I am, and how to love me for me. Even while the most profound sources of love surround me I sometimes struggle with providing myself with the same emotion. It is the reason I have often ignored the hands reaching out for me to uplift me and steady me when I waiver. When I'm shaking, quivering, unable to find my place within a corrupt world. Ironically, there are few things worse to me, than reaching out for help and the receiver not responding. I've been on both sides of this, and can now understand the frustrations that come with it. But, because I've been on both sides I've found my reason for my own behavior. Internal war. Conditioned responses. A youth (though it felt like an eternity) of comparisons to whomever appeared in my eyes ...

Escaping Indecisions

Fear and Indecision reside across the street from Promises and Dreams. They've invited one another over occasionally in hopes they could coexist, but Fear overpowers Dreams and Promises, leaving only Indecision. This leads to believing each step and every turn taken is wrong. Eventually, Promises and Dreams get the entire neighborhood to sign a petition to exile Fear and Indecision because all they have ever done is bring sadness to positive hearts and souls like theirs. An echo of good riddance fills their lovely town. I know you've grasped the moral of my mini tale. If not by the title, then by the context of it. It is time to band fear and indecision from your mind, so that you may prosper. To step forward you must move on from familiarity, and embrace all encompassing change. We are...

Promises Forgotten

It's nearly June, and I know you've made promises to yourself that reach as far back as four, five, six months, or even years. It is possible that at the time you made them you weren't ready to commit. After all, most everything is easier said than done. Everything that's worth anything anyway. Success in a field filled with pitfalls, developing confidence within yourself, finding your version of the truest love and most enriching joy known to man. The list goes on. As we grow and evolve trying to discover who we are and what our dreams truly represent, we learn that two things are for sure: 1.) Time waits for no one. 2.) There is no result (for most) without action. I know you've experienced an irksome occurrence where something has practically fallen into the lap of a person you know,...

Grounds for Optimism

Optimism is the foundation of courage. optimism  hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something. noun /ˈäptəˌmizəm/ courage  the ability to do something that frightens one, strength. noun /ˈkə-rij/ foundation  an underlying basis or principle for something noun /founˈdāSHən/ you  used to refer to the greatest entities that walk the Earth, also known as you. pronoun /yo͞o/ I imagine some of you staring at your screen wondering why I provided you with such basic (and factual, with the exception of you) definitions for words so commonly used in the English language. I believe over time terms lose their original meaning and/or value. So, the reason that they are there is to remind you not just what they mean, but what is naturally apart of you. ...

Dream Catchers

Note: I did not edit this post. It was handwritten initially, and I didn't want to disturb the moment in which it was derived from. If it reaches you and is beneficial to you, I am glad. If not, God bless you on any and every one of your endeavors. I call this Dream Catchers because we who share that positive energy will soon surface, and before we know it our dreams will be realized on every level we've worked toward. Love Always, Veronica ✌❤  For the Optimist:  You’ve heard this before. You can do any and every single thing your heart desires. It’s true, but your path may not mirror your idol’s. This is something the younger generation often forgets. Most of the time we admire people because of their struggle and how similar they seem to us, but that does not mean we have the same road...

That Power

Freedom is here to stay... - Jasemine Denise It takes an incredible amount of strength and confidence to change your life, but it is true that if the path you are taking is not getting you where you want to be you have to change it. Living in the unknown is as terrifying as it is satisfying. To no longer feel obligated to live a certain way because it is all you know. I know you've heard it before, but wouldn't it be phenomenal if everyone could take the same positive advice they give to the next person, and follow through? To love yourself, to strive to reach your goals no matter the cost, and so on. That power is in all of us, and I believe that. Fear is what stifles the majority of people. See, most of us believe that we've always been destined for better things. Beyond what we do day...

We Are Limitless

We often forget this. That we are limitless and only confined by our thoughts. We fail to remember that that which makes us great does not have to be justified, nor verified by someone else just to be true. We place barriers before ourselves by choice, not because someone else told us that we can't do something. When it dwindles down to the honest and bare truth, it seems we fear our own successes and freedoms. We blame our financial situation, our physical appearance, our lack of knowledge, when in reality sometimes knowing very little can help you go farther because you aren't entirely aware of possible pitfalls. After all, being educated and knowing too much are two completely different things.  When I tweeted, "Don't quit your daydream." I meant it. Your replies bore a phenomenal re...

Please take a moment to absorb the depths of the title of this post. Perfectionism is an Illusion. Now, get up from where you're sitting and look in the mirror. Hopefully you have a laptop because I'd like to come with you. If not, write or memorize the following words to speak aloud while glancing at your reflection. "I will make mistakes, I will not always have my happy ending for each and every moment. I will give myself permission to be happy regardless. I know we are all made different and I will accept that. I will strive to become the absolute best version of myself daily, no longer comparing myself to someone else." Finally, smile at that beautiful person staring back at you. Trust me. Do it. Don't laugh it off. You can laugh, but don't turn away. *waits* Remember last yea...

Nan Pwem Lapriyè Ki Pa Gen Amen

"Nan pwem lapriyè ki pa gen amen." [There is no prayer without its amen.] Amidst the uplifting roar of laughter and immense smiles I've found myself stunned by worlds I had only met through news broadcasts and columns. Jamaica, Haiti, Grand Cayman. In 6 days time I didn't even scratch the surface of the history and current conditions of three places thriving only in darkness and surviving solely on faith. It is remarkable how these deplorable and heartbreaking territories are surrounded by beauty yet buried in misery. The poverty level is as sickening as the near non-existent healthcare services they are provided in Jamaica. With 78% of their population representing the masses and 18% barely making it in middle class as well, that leaves just 4% upper class individuals (most of which are...

Commit

Commit to Amazement This Year. I hope you all had a fantastic night! I decided against naming this post the obvious and typical Happy New Year, so I instead titled it Commit. This year is one requiring much focus, dedication, and time. Go about everything knowing whether you truly want it or not. Do not waste your own time by saying 'I guess I could', instead discover the things you can't not do that are positive. Break negative habits, be strong, know that you deserve every great thing you believe you do. We don't have to live "by the book", we just have to live. So I'll leave you with this quote from someone I admired for many years. "Commit and go for it, or don't do it at all."

Begin Again…Today

No matter how hard the past was, you can always begin again. Every day is a new beginning. My question is: Why do most people wait for a new year for it? The same pardons you will afford yourself in that "new year" you could've given yourself in the "old " one. The same setbacks, the same disappointments. I am a strong believer that every second, every hour....those are the moments to begin again. I'm not big on "beginning of the week" or "beginning of the year" goals. Time restraints have always been, to me, prolonged justifications for laziness and lack of faith in oneself. I used to be caught up in time and placed heavy significance on beginning positive changes at the start of a new month, but even that got cancelled out. I began to realize that progressive changes were easier to handl...

Doubters Anonymous

Welcome to Doubters Anonymous.   Hi my name is Veronica and I am a self-doubter. Since the age of 12 I have suffered from this "addiction". For years I have been told kind words such as 'you've inspired me' and 'the reason I do this is because of you', but....speaking honestly, although it isn't an entirely crippling, every now and again doubt causes me to lose sight of things. It is fair to declare indecisiveness and my personally set high standards inflame the reservations I dwell on. Recently, as I have in the past, I stepped outside of myself to analyze my condition and well-being using only positive reinforcements. For instance, focusing on the purest most relevant and fact based pros about myself that time, family, and friends have opened my eyes to. Not a single doubt in my ...

Pride & Respect – ENDA

I do not follow politics much, but I do follow that which pertains to the safety and well being of my people. Workplace discrimination toward gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people was addressed today. A bill referred to as Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) earned 60 of the necessary senate votes to surpass its initial hurdle. Millions of our family and/or friends have been denied the bare minimum in terms of security and now the veil has dropped and rights are being realized.   Verbal and physical abuse, being turned away from jobs (you all saw the 'Gay Need Not Apply' tweets?), denied benefits, harassed, fired... The conduct of management can be intimidating for most people because we rely so heavily on income, and without it we cannot survive so we tread lightl...
