Get Away

It is so unreal to me that it is December 1, 2015. There are many days my brain operates as if it were December 1, 2005. At that time I was 14 and more than likely obsessing over Justin Timberlake, Johnny Depp, Antonio Banderas, and Coldplay respectively. Time is an illusion and as more of it goes by I realize that I don't move with it. I age physically, but mentally and soulfully I am motionless. As long as I could remember I've been this age (an old soul) with a certain level of wisdom and a particular amount of necessary solitude. I am now whom I've always been, with a bit more strength intertwined in the way I go about things. I think time baffles me because although things have come to light, successes and letdowns, there is stillness to it all. As an author I should able to make thi...

This Poem Called “Rain”

This Poem Called "Rain" Rain fuels the soul. Cleanses the mind. Heals one lacking inspiration. Rain represents freedom: The ability to fall and rise infinitely. Like the rain... I f a l l Like the rain... I rise. Yet, I was once like the pavement. Not necessarily concrete. Just walked on – trampled on – mangled to defeat. Now the very thing that hits it...soothes it. Beautiful droplets of hope reminds me... Like the rain... All things fallen can rise again. © Veronica N. Davis, 2015 Poetry

The final feature of 2015 allows me to end the way I began, with a near and dear cousin. This time around, my older one is Newsletter 22's feature. She gives all of her time, patience, and heart to any and everyone, no matter where they come from or what they've done in their pasts. She's someone who has always deserved spotlight, but was too busy placing others into it. You'll love her poetry, but first...   Meet Lillie Biography of Lillie Lillie S Davis was born and raised in the west suburbs of Chicago, Il. Her first poem began as an assignment for her Freshman English class at Proviso East High School. Soon there after, she realized the relief and pleasure it was to write. Pen and pap...

FAQs For My Novels

"The Library is Open" so to speak. Here you'll find an entry for the frequently asked questions derived from fans of my novels. Point of Infliction [Jump to novel FAQs for Tomorrow Never Came | Blind Thirst] Who is Derek Caldwell inspired by? I love him. His dark features are no doubt inspired by British actor Ben Barnes. When I began writing the concept for this book, I was going through a powerful phase with that fellow. Camille Moore is a very beautifully written character. I really enjoy the Camille and Minnie dynamic. Can you tell me who inspired that? That character chemistry is based on a childhood memory I have from my mother's youth. Minnie is named and modeled after a family member of mine. Richard is hot. That's not a question. Hahaha. But I love the comment, so this i...

Fear of Flying

Don't let the fear of falling, keep you from flying.  - Unknown   The Fear of Flying   The fear of flying is not to be taken lightly. I have encountered several people who have a crippling fear of aircrafts, from helicopters to military aircrafts. My personal views on this fear shifted after I spoke with a friend of mine who swore she couldn't board a plane with me and the girls. It baffled me initially. I assumed her fear was piggybacking off of claustrophobia, but soon found that was not the case. The thought of stepping foot on a plane made her palms moisten, her stomach churned, and her eyes looked pleadingly at me. I was astounded. I hugged her and said I understood. That we would keep it local, but promised her that wasn't the last time we would discuss it. To fear plan...

Fear of Rejection

Life is a succession of lessons, which must be lived to be understood. - Ralph Waldo Emerson   Not a single soul, no matter what it outwardly declares, wants to feel isolated, alone, nor fail. We are a race that wishes to belong to something and succeed at all we attempt. Yet, rooted in the need to belong and progress in life is the fear of rejection. What the hxll is that about? Let's discuss... The Fear of Rejection   For every good thing we imagine, we naturally acknowledge the adverse reaction to the goal or destination in mind. That's rejection lingering. It's that little voice confirming what you find yourself sadly expecting. What happens when you spend your time expecting the expected instead of the possibility of something great? It the negatives become reality an...

Fear of Imperfection

"I'm never pleased with anything. I'm a perfectionist. It's part of who I am." - Michael Jackson   Would it be too cheesy if I began with "you are not alone, I am here with you" and sit here temporarily pleased someone is reading this smiling or laughing? I like thinking that before we go into this I made you smile. That's important. We're dealing with some intense things in short bursts, and I always want you to remember one thing. You should have it forever in your mind by now, with how often I say, type it, tweet it, send it. Worthy warriors are never alone.   Okay. On with it. Fear of Love

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.   Love is one of the most profoundly complex, yet necessary, human emotions. It is shared from human to human and to human to animal, even soul to soul. Love implies a level of acceptance. Flaws, belief systems, culture, race, heritage, and many other facets of the human condition intermingle with the notion of love. It is a word defined yet undefined. It’s beautiful in every sense of itself. This single word is filled with strength, passion, confidence, and compassion. It is as vibrant and strong as a billion warriors, but can cause feel like a thousand blows of anxiety. People may feel troubled by the thought of being loved, and giving love. G...

Fear of Facing Yourself

The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself. - Anna   It is entirely too easy to lose yourself in this world. You know you have when you begin to question every second of every day, and how you "measure up" to this, that, and the other. It's incredible how quickly egos can wipe out all signs of human compassion and connectivity. What we see becomes nothing short of twisted illusions (see Jasemine-Denise's novel Twisted Illusions). We've been immersed in an era infatuated with reality TV and social media - anything that can make anyone feel famous, beautiful, and valued. This is where your true self can be lost because you feel you need to keep up with the changes. It is natural to wonder within that sc...

Fear of Letting Go

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." -Thomas Campbell Growing up I would hear my loved one say, "It's unfair how much we can love one another and then how much we hurt when they are gone." My response was always the same. I would say, "We live forever in the hearts and minds that truly loved us. Dying is only the departure of body, not soul." It was my way of consoling someone I loved about someone she cherished, but it was also my own personal thoughts, a truth I held dear. One of my closest friends lost her dad when we were young. I saw his serene face which would no longer bear his dazzling oversized grin, and I suddenly could not face reality. To me he always represented her stronger more loving parent, and I felt his passing was unfair. Don't we all, though? When we se...

Together we will overcome everything holding us back. Remember that life is an amazing series o...
